Day Treatment Program

The Day Treatment Program at St. Mary’s Home for Boys serves approximately 25 students, ages 11-18, who receive educational and therapeutic services during the school day at Levi Anderson Learning Center while residing at home with their families or caregivers.

Students engage in weekly Individual Skills Training, daily Group Skills Training, and Individual Counseling to promote emotional regulation, social development, and academic success. Each student collaborates with staff to create a Treatment Plan that identifies personalized goals and areas for growth. Through this integrated approach, students receive consistent behavioral and emotional support to help them build coping strategies, improve interpersonal skills, and achieve progress in both their personal and educational development.

Treatment Planning

Upon admission to the program, students are assigned a Master’s level Mental Health Case Manager. The role of the case manager is to develop a treatment plan and act as the point person for coordination and communication of services with school staff, families, and community team members.

Each student’s case manager provides Individual Counseling and offer Family Counseling for those who might be interested. Case Managers collaborate with larger multi-disciplinary teams and coordinate care with community supports such as WRAP  Coordinators, Mental Health Therapists, Home School District Representatives, Legal Aids, among others. Additionally they conduct Initial Service Plans (ISPs). Individual Evaluation and Assessments (IEAs), monthly behavioral progress reports, and treatment reviews twice a school year.

Case managers provide supervision to the Day Treatment staff regarding the implementation and monitoring of treatment plans to better support the needs of each student. Case managers attend all IEP meetings and Treatment meetings.

Services Provided

To support the emotional, behavioral, and social development of the students in the Day Treatment program, the Case Managers and the Day Treatment Counselors provide a variety of services. These services are provided to support the individualized behavioral goals that are created by the Case Managers in collaboration with the student and their overall treatment. All treatment goals, treatment plans, and related supports are communicated to families and the student’s care team.

Our treatment services provide a structured and supportive time for students to work on emotional, behavioral, and treatment-related goals that support their success both in and outside of school.

Individual Counseling

During these sessions, the case manager collaborates with the student to develop and review individualized goals, build coping and self-regulation skills, and address challenges related to behavior, emotions, and school engagement.

Family Counseling is offered as an optional support to work with families on reviewing progress towards goals, sharing strategies for supporting emotional and behavioral needs at home, and provide coaching on routines, behavior strategies, and coping strategies. This support is intended to enhance continuity of care and reinforce shared approaches that support the student’s overall treatment goals and school success.

Individual and Group Skill Training engages students with staff members to work on their individual goals and overall social and emotional learning.

Referrals

Students in the Day Treatment Program are referred through their home school district’s referral process.

These students are all on an Individualized Education Plan (IEP) and have documented needs related to emotional regulation, executive functioning, or relational challenges. Often times, the student has experienced discipline or disengagement in their previous academic settings as a result of their challenges.

Prior to enrollment the Day Treatment program and Levi Anderson Learning Center, the IEP team will have met and made the decision that the student would be most successful in a public separate setting. The referral is then sent to the Day Treatment Program Manager to be assessed and next steps will be communicated with the representative from the school district.
